My version of the Resurrection on display as part of the Male Nudes show at the Wallace Trust Pah Homestead
This work is a part of “The Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary” series purchased by the Trust in 2008
Part of catholic dogma, The Mysteries of the Rosary are meditations on episodes in the life and death of Jesus often printed as popular cards as well as being subject matter for artists through the ages.
I came across a display of The Mysteries while visiting the odd town of Knock in County Mayo, Ireland, along with Lourdes and Fatima a major pilgrimage site dedicated to an apparition of the Virgin Mary. A wee town of 600 souls with an international airport and a basilica that holds 10,000.
As a child I imagined holy water coming from a fountain here it is dispensed on an industrial scale, virgin shaped bottles purchased from the hoard of trinket sellers are filled from a vast row of utilitarian taps.
Got something to say? Go for it!
